Whittlesford, Duxford or Harston?

A friend of mine is moving to the Cambridge area, and is considering Whittlesford, Duxford or Harston. Can anyone give me any info on these villages that I can give her, to help her decide which village to choose, please? Which is the nicest village? She has three children, aged 8, 10 and 12, who would all be at independent schools in Cambridge, so school run (or public transport for older one?) into Cam a factor too.

TIA.

Hi CamCamGirl,

I live near those villages, though not in any of them. My husband works in Harston so I've spent a bit of time there.

They're all pretty nice villages; I would say Duxford has the most amenities, and they're clustered in a village centre. Whittlesford and Harston are more spread out, and Harston is bisected by the A10. We ended up buying slightly closer to Cambridge, but if we were to move again, we'd consider Whittlesford and Duxford.

To be honest, public transport is not great from any of them. The bus from Royston stops in Harston (I think it's the 26), but I'm not sure how frequent it is, and it seems to stop running quite early. Whittlesford Parkway station has regular trains into Cambridge, and is about equidistant (ie about a mile)from Whittlesford centre and Duxford. The Citi 7 bus sometimes stops at Duxford, but usually terminates in Sawston. Again I think it stops quite early. Traffic into Cambridge is terrible at school run times, unfortunately.

I hope this helps, good luck to your friend. They'll all be nice places to live and hopefully they'll find a house/location that's right for them.
