Hi Ladies (and Gents), we are thinking of moving to Charrington Place development (0.3 miles from the St Albans City station). Would really appreciate your opinion on our chances to get into a good primary school and then secondary couple of years down the road. Many thanks in advance.

If you look at herts admissions website you will find this year's admission figures. The rules are they take siblings, then children for whom it is the nearest school In order of distance, then the rest by distance. It shows the nearest school is St peters - generally thought of as very good, but there Are only 30 children in each year so it is a bit of a gamble. There are other ok options from there (most of the St albans primaries are good).

Your chances of getting into one of the most wanted secondary schools (sandringham, beaumont, stags) from there are non existent. You would get verulam (boys only, probably next best after those 3) if you were lucky or maybe Samuel Ryder (which is a school in the ascendency but people give me the impression that it still has some ascending to do).

You'd be very close to SS Alban & Stephen which is a great (Catholic) primary.

Agree that you'd be too far from Sandringham or Beaumont which are the two that are most in demand. If you have girls, you'd be fairly close to Loreto College - a fantastic, all girls Catholic secondary.
