KT2 school nursery waiting lists

Does anyone have any experience as to whether children actually move off of the waiting lists?

We were on a waiting list 2 years ago (albeit at place no. 1) for a school nursery and did get a place very quickly. I know there is often lots of movement with nurseries as they don't coordinate admissions so people can in theory hold places at more than one nursery. Nearer the start of term there is usually movement.
