Craigentinny

Wondering if anyone can let me know their views on Craigentinny Primary School. We are looking to move to the area and the catchment for the house we want means my daughters would start at Craigentinny.

We have read the HMIE inspection and although it isn't great, it isn't terrible. But inspections aren't the whole story. It seems to be quite a community focused school which we like. The report suggests some kids get failed but it doesn't say who.

Does anyone have kids or friends kids who go here?

Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.

Thabks

To be honest, I don't know anyone with children at the school (all our friends have either gone private or have children at the catholic school in the catchment). I do know that it doesn't have the best reputation, but the catchment is very mixed in it's demographic. However, I think it's worth visiting the school and seeing what you think for yourself. I have heard that the class sizes are small which goes in it's favour and that the Head teacher is supposed to be quite good.

Overall, I think it's a school which has a bad rep which isn't entirely deserved.

Thanks for your reply. Since asking that question we discovered that in terms of rankings, the school was 79th out of 87 in Edinburgh. I understand it has good, hardworking staff, but we didn't feel right risking sending them there.

Thanks again.
