Hi there, we have recently moved to TW and I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for swimming lessons for our 4 year old. Either private lessons or small groups preferred. Many thanks!!

Hi Nattynat18
They will swim at Crowborough leisure centre with the Mead school so perhaps try there first if you are that side of town? Was thinking of going their for my 3 girls

Thanks Karen - have taken a look at their site. I want to her to feel more confidence in the water before the mead lessons start. She loves being in the pool but is not happy under water.

Hope your move has gone well. Our daughter had a few mornings at the holiday club at the Mead before Easter and loved it. She is looking forward to starting next week.

They do lessons at the TW leisure centre as well...several sessions later on Wednesdays after school hours. We used them for our eldest to supplement school swimming lessons as DD wasn't al that confident at first. Seemed to work quite well.

Don't know if they still do them, but Burrswood (at Groombridge) used to run swimming lessons in their hydrotherapy pool. Both my DS and DD had lessons there, the pool's lovely and warm and the teachers are wonderful,

My children have all learnt with Alison Marks Swim School based at Fosse Bank in Hildenborough. We also used to go to the fabulous Burrswood (before they stopped doing swimming lessons whilst they refurbished the pool - but perhaps they are back on now?), and we have also tried the TW Leisure Centre.

I really rate the teachers and the whole experience at Alison Marks - the pool is warm, the teachers are excellent and all four of mine have loved/love their lessons. The older two then went back to TW Leisure centre once they were more competent and needed a longer pool, but for learners it's fabulous.

I also have friends who speak really highly of the teaching at the Nuffield Health centre on the industrial estate, but I don't have personal experience of them.

Thanks all for the input. I tried Burrswood but it's very popular and more for babies to pre-schoolers. They suggested Holmewood House swim school which starts from 4 years old and has beginner classes. She starts today so hopefully she will enjoy it.

My almost 3 year old has been having parent and child sessions at TW sports centre on Thursday mornings. The group ranges in age between 2.5 and 4 years old and there are about 8 children maximum.
It's a small learners pool which has no deep end, it goes from adult knee height to adult thigh (I'm 5'5"!)
We've enjoyed it so far, there's no pressure and lots of emphasis on gaining confidence.

I can highly recommend Puddle Ducks - I am taking my son to lessons there at the moment and have been blogging about it. He is only 6 months but it might give you an idea of what they are like :) wp.me/p5IRKD-9I

A friend sends her 4 year old to a Puddle Ducks class on a Fri afternoon and she loves it. It's very personal and the pools they teach in are lovely and warm!
