Kimbolton - thoughts on both school and area?

Hi All,

I am looking around for primary schools for DD1 and I am interested on any feedback on Kimbolton school. Can anyone tell me what the primary school is like please? I am also interested in reviews of the secondary school especially pastoral care and extra curricular activities.

In addition I would be grateful for any info on living in the area? I am looking at Kimbolton and then over towards Cambridge which I am more familiar with - so would love some info on life in and around Kimbolton.

Thanks in advance if you are taking the time to answer this.

Hi, I was on your other thread about the villages. I don't know much about kimbolton school itself, although its one that I will be considering soon for my children (along with perse upper and the leys). The area around kimbolton is pretty and you would get much more for your money there, but it is a lot further from Cambridge and seems a bit more "cut off" to me. A couple of villages you may want to consider at Elsworth and The Gransdens (great gransden and little gransden). I'm pretty sure that kimbolton has a school bus from all of them(and many other villages if you look on their website). Elsworth is catchment for the highly regarded Swavesey secondary and the gransdens are now catchment for the equally good comberton secondary. So your options would be open still (they all have very good primary's too). You would also be well placed for your dh travelling to Bedford and also still close to Cambridge if you wanted to consider those private schools. You do tend to get more for your money in those villages than you would in the villages you mentioned in your other thread (but not as much as you would get round kimbolton way!) It depends whether you are bothered about being close to Cambridge as kimbolton is a lot more "in the sticks" IMO. Sorry for lack of paragraphs, on my phone !

Hi Olives,
Thank you very much for your reply (sorry for slow response). We are visiting Perse, St Marys and Kimbolton but I think it is going to come down to a country v city decision in the end. We went to see Kimbolton village the other day and the countryside is beautiful.
I am torn now between country life for dd and the luxury of city life aghh. I have thought about the villages outside Cam but I don't think I could face the traffic during rush hour in and out of the city. How are your deliberations going?
