Hi Friends,

We have moved to Mickleover,Derby from London due to change of Job for DH, My Son is in reception, When we applied for school place (reception) in Mickleover, council has cited all the schools are full in Mickleover & asked us to appeal,They have indicated Bemrose Primary school can be offered or schools in Chaddesdon ? Any ideas about Stenson Fields Primary School ,A bit stressed with this situation,Any advice will be appreciated

Goodness, they are all in the opposite direction. Have you asked about schools in Littleover? They are closer to you than Chaddesden. It may be a good idea to post this in Education on the main board as there will be some people who know more about spaces and the appeals process. I think they strongly suggest that you accept any school that you are offered, and then apply for a change of school. I lived in Derby for 15 years and I really wouldn't recommend Bemrose. I looked at the ofsted report when I was looking for a secondary school and it was far from good. There is a Montissori school on the same road as Bemrose, and there's a private Church school on Kedleston Road (Emmanuel) which is lovely (and not too expensive) if you decided to go down this route.

Fingers crossed. Ds went there. It's basic in terms of facilities and making a packed lunch every day wasn't fun, but the staff are wonderful and it's a very nurturing environment. We're not church goers (ds would have been a Jedi at this age Grin) but he made a lot of friends there and he was really sad to leave.

Agree to ask about littleover or even Allestree schools.
Stenson fields has a nice ethos and community but feeds often into Sinfin secondary.

I would avoid others suggested. Emmanuel school may be an excellent and affordable place to go whilst wait for a more suitable place to become available.

Hi, if you are able to travel to Allestree, Lawn School has places in the current reception year, we have a new head since our last ofsted ( so ignore that), my children are very happy yr5 and yr3 and doing fantastically well, I know a few Mickleover children who attend.

And I know a few Mickleover children who got into Allestree's secondary school also. Lawn is a primary school, whereas the otoer allestree school is infant/junior so no guarantee could stay once left infants if not in catchment for juniors.

Lawn is an excellent school. I pulled ds out of Markeaton Primary due to bullying though, hence why he ended up at Emmanual. It doesn't matter where the primary is, chances are you'll still end up being allocated a place in your catchment secondary school. Traffic in Derby is madness in the mornings though, just to warn you. You could do with a school not too far from you so that you don't end up spending an hour travelling across the city every morning.

Thanks Ladies ,Much Appreciated ,Called up Council ,Lawn has some places ,so applied ofr that (Will get decision only in the w/Cc 13th April ) ,Emmanuel School is closed ,so will visit them after 13th April
Worried about traffic in both cases ,DH can drop him in the mornings ,will have to pick up in noon ( Being in london ,never needed to drive,& hence don't have license)

Great Lawn has spaces, rated much higher than what they originally offered and you would need to transport to Chaddesden ones as well.

Thanks Everyone, Just waiting for Council to confirm
