Hello mums,

I am planning to move to Chelmsford with my 6year old dS from London.
I would like advice on what's it like to live there , areas to avoid, school etc
It will be great to hear from those who know the area well!

Thanks a lot!

Old moulsham is popular. Variety of state and private schools within walking distance. Good selection of period property yet within walking distance of city centre. Alternatively there are several small villages surrounding chelmsford if that is more the life you are looking for (Danbury, Great Waltham, Little Waltham, Ford End, Pleshey). What did you have in mind as on reading back, my post is not very helpful Blush?

Where you live depends on what you need, re travel to work etc. Budget renting or buying. The only area you need to avoid IMHO is Melbourne really, although the schools there are well rated. Some of the schools in some areas are very oversubscribed.
I loved living in Old Moulsham, housing tends to be Victorian/Edwardian terraced or semi detached. It is quite pricey. Short walk to town. There are some large estates and Beaulieu Park is expanding at the moment. There are 2 park and rides so you can live further out.
If you narrow down your requirements budget etc we could help more specifically.
With a 6 year old your best start might be phoning Essex CC to see which schools have places.

I will be commmuting to the Broomfield hospital by car.
I am looking to rent a 3 bedroom property (budget 900-1200pm) walking distance to school for 6 year old dS and things to do. We plan to move end July.
I called Essex CC, adviced to call back in June.
family friendly areas would be great!
