New Dundonald playground is open!

It's been a long wait, but the new playground (well, 2/3 of it) is now officially open.

The school link to the tennis courts isn't quite done, yet, but Merton's website says it will be completed next week, and the week after they will be open for public use outside school hours.

Did it even need a revamp? We were in that rec less than six months ago with the DCs and I would say it was (even before the refurb) one of the better 'furnished' kids' playgrounds in Merton.

I find it unbelievable that the wealthiest part of the borough gets the best facilities (Wimbledon Park looking at you!) for the children who are least in need Hmm.

It want revamped! It had to move due to the expansion of Dundonald Primary. And it's not in Wimbledon Park either

I know the difference between Dundonald Park and Wimbledon Park, CentreCourtWimbledon - I've lived in Merton for 15 years and with two DCs (a teen and a tween) would like to think I know the borough well enough to make the point.

If you checked out parks elsewhere in the borough you might think that what Dundonald Park already had (pre revamp), in terms of apparatus/equipment, was significantly better than the facilities most other children in Merton have access to in public spaces!

then why infer that Dundonald Rec is benefitting from being in Wimbledon Park?

Once again, it's not a revamp. There are actually fewer swings than before, and it's not been massively improved as far as I can tell. Due to the expansion of the school the playground had to be moved and actually most of the equipment was just lifted up and moved, rather than replaced.

No inference that Dundonald Rec is in Wimbledon Park was ever intended or sugggested IMHO. It was an aside to my main comment - nothing more!

Anyway, it's good that Dundonald Rec is open again and hopefully the weather will improve so that the children can properly enjoy it.

Yes, more of a move than a revamp and there are only a few new bits of play equipment, but I'm just so pleased its open. We've been getting the tube to Wimbledon Park or the tram to Morden Hall Park, but sometimes it's nice just to be able to walk to a playground.

I'm not sure I agree about the richer bits of Merton getting all the best playgrounds - the Morden Hall Park adventure playground is great and there's a really good (but underused, as far as I can tell) playground on the High Path estate.
