Do we want a new 16-storey skyscraper at Purley Cross?

Did you know that there are plans for a 16-storey skyscraper at Purley Cross, opposite Tesco's? It doesn't sound like even the owners of the site want to build such a high building but it looks like this is what the Council is insisting on.

There is a bit more explanation and a survey here if anyone is interested:

Thanks for letting us know about this. I have shared on Facebook.

Just been googling this as I was a bit horrified, but then started to find it odd that the survey was referring to a 16 storey building as a "skyscraper" and the buildings in the picture seemed to be pictures of buildings that are far higher than 16 storeys. (Here is a picture of a 16 storey building 3d-land.net/3D_model/16_storey_building.html
) From what i can gather, it seems the survey is produced by the local conservative party, so probably a bit of exaggeration going on to encourage locals not to vote labour in the forthcoming elections! An actual 16 storey building seems rather high for the area anyway, but not quite as extreme as in the photo!

I think that I read on another site that a building of 12 storeys qualifies as a skyscraper so 16 storeys is definitely a skyscraper.

I didn't post this to be political either. Croydon South is a safe seat so I'd be surprised if this was supposed to be a vote winner for any political party. Looks more like the person who started the survey wanted to make people aware of what might be happening in the area. I fear that if it goes through, which I assume it will, that it will set a precedent and make Purley Cross even more unpleasant than it is now.
