Am I mad to hope to find an in year place at Scarcroft or Knavesmire Primary in year 1 or 2 (depends exactly when we move)?

No, not mad, although scarcroft is usually full people do move. Knavesmire is expanding which might help. Call and see!

Try Fishergate if you're in that area too. Can highly recommend it and although fairly full there is often pupil movement as a number of parents on contracts at university etc.

Sorry to jump on board but we are also moving to York & will need reception place for September 2015. Seen houses in Bishopthorpe & Hewarth. Do you think I would get an in year application place in either of these locations? Hempland or Bishopthorpe Infants would be nearest schools for each respective area. We are teachers so can't move until end of July. If no places, any experience of waiting lists?

Think the best thing you can do is call the schools and ask.

Thanks all. I did call the schools and they were helpful although all they could tell me was that they don't have any places at the moment. It's good to hear positive feedback about Fishergate as that's also an option.
