Papworth and Cambourne - internet speeds?

Hi all,

We're looking to move to the Cambridge area in July/August. My husband works from home and will need continuous access to high-speed internet as he works on databases. We get 30 Mbps where we are now.

It would be great to hear from anyone in Papworth Everard, particularly the Barratt Summerfields development, or Cambourne about their experiences with getting superfast broadband.

I've been looking online at the Connecting Cambridgeshire maps, Papworth Broadband.org, broadband checking sites, etc., and have read a couple of news items. Thought I'd ask here just to get some local Mumsnet opinions/info.

Thanks!

your best bet re Cambourne is to post this enquiry on the Facebook Page "Cambourne Information". Lots of people will help you out. A couple of years ago Cambourne got BT Infinity. We're on the Cambourne Exchange (but don't live in Cambourne) and our internet speed is usually very fast. DH works from home a lot, DC stream videos etc and it's all fine. Download speeds of 30 - 60 depending on time of day (better during the day than the evening when teens come home, but never have a problem with remote working, even with large files).

However, not all houses in Cambourne can get BT infinity. I have a feeling it's houses built before 2010 but am not sure. The FB page will answer that query.

I've got lots of friends in Cambourne, Bourn and Caxton, some of whom work from home, and it's not a problem. I have a friend who lives in Papworth and her internet seed is appalling. She can't work from home. I do't know if there are bits of the village that are better than others.

IMO, I'd much rather live in Cambourne than Papworth.

Internet speed not seed, obviously!

Thanks so much MrsGrowbag! Really good to know there's a chance for getting fast broadband in Cambourne.

I took a look at the Facebook page and saw a thread about internet. It looks like it's specifc to the house (like you said, pre-2010) and its location, so something to ask owners once we start looking.

Afaik, all houses in Lower and Greater Cambourne were built before 2010, most of Upper Cambourne is after 2010, but your best bet is to ask when you're looking.
Cambourne has loads of facilities, and lots going on. It's a great place if you have children. Also there are buses every 20 minutes into Cambridge, so you can access everything there as well (shops, museums, cinemas etc). Lots of green spaces, places to walk.

I hope you find the right house.

I know two sets of people at summers field (one dwh and other Barratt) and one gets okay broadband (dwh) but Barratt homes one gets awful connection - less than 1mb!
