Roseburn Primary

Hello. Please tell me all you know about Roseburn primary! Thank you very much mumsnetters.

It is popular but very oversubscribed so if you wan to go there you must be in the catchment. Lots of the primary six and seven kids move into the private schools early for secondary.
It is on a list to be extended due to rising population numbers.

Hi. Thanks very much for that. We are in catchment. Any ideas why it is popular? Large catchment area/high birth rate or great school?

It's a great school, my dd is there. It actually has quite a small catchment if you look at it, and mostly covers a v affluent area so many kids in the area go to private school, if they didn't they would reallystruggle to accommodate all catchment kids. I like that it is small and has a village feel to it. The staff are excellent, and the head knows all the children by name. A lot of people apply out of catchment as homes in the catcement are expensive but in the last few years they have not been able to take any. Academically and pastorally it is fantastic. It feeds into craigmount which I know isn't popular with parents we have a few years before we have to face that though.

Thank you for that really helpful post. Why is craigmount not popular? I always understood it to be one of the highest achieving edinburgh schools?

I meant to type 'Some' parents sorry.. Like 3nationedinburgh said above some people move to private, but most go to craigmount and I know it has great results.. (Uniform is a bit naff but easy to customize so the kids like it ) Moving to secondary seems very far away for us, def happy with Roseburn for now
