Hi mums! I moved to N17 in Sept and have become quite isolated :( my husband works full time as a nurse and its just me and our gorgeous 6mnth old son while he's on shift. I'm from Brighton and have a few friends in London but unfortunately they all work weekdays :( Please tell me if there are any free baby groups in my area or if you have any ideas for me and my boy! This was a very difficult message to write as I feel like I'm admitting defeat :( everyone told me I'd feel this way :( xxxx

Hello! Welcome to the area! I don't know N17 especially well as I'm in a different part of Haringey but there is no need to feel isolated as there is bags to do with little ones.

Have a look at NCT's Haringey website for ideas of free weekly meet ups. My DD is a bit older now but while I was on maternity leave, these groups were really wonderful.

The Burghley Road Community Centre is fab with tons of activities.

Good luck!

Hi LiliMama1,
I'm glad you posted - everyone needs company throughout the week. I felt exactly the same when I had my first, and was delighted to meet other local mums at baby and toddler groups.

Burley Road is wonderful, here is some info:

But there are loads of other groups too. If you click the 'see all on map' button, you can easily see which ones are near you.

Hi,

I live in N17 too and am just about to go back to work, but I've been there too. I know it can seem a bit desolate, but there is quite a lot of stuff happening round here. Some thoughts off the top of my head:

  • Burlington Road Children's Centre and Broadwater Farm Children's Centre have free activities - including baby massage and baby sensory play
  • Lordship Rec cafe has a baby meet up (I think) the first Tuesday of every month
  • We went to Movers and Shakers in Wood Green, which was great (and a short bus ride away)
  • Soft play at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre is great when they can sit up/start moving
  • The Marcus Garvey Library has free activities on Monday and Tuesday mornings (tends to be for slightly older children, but my baby loved seeing other children/babies)
  • Grace Baptist Church on Napier Road has a playgroup for babies and young children on Friday mornings (it's free, I think, and non-religious)

Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm in turnpike lane. Fairly new to the area too and happy to meet if you fancy for tea?
