I have today written an email to [email protected] regarding my own concerns as a local resident with regard to the planning proposal of 'The Waddon Motorway' proposal. Details below. This affects the green space of Duppas Hill Park, pollution levels to the area and will have an impact on historical importance of the conversation area of Croydon and Local Listed Status properties. You can also sign the campaign created by Peter Underwood, Green Party candidate for Croydon. This can be found at Change org if you search for 'say no to waddon motorway'
Hello
I am writing with regards to the proposed development of fiveways Croydon to accommodate increased traffic flow to related development in Central Croydon – namely Westfield & Hammersons plans to regenerate Croydon’s retail town centre.
I understand as part of these proposals there are proposed plans in place to increase the road size in the surrounding areas. I live in the Waldrons which is part of a valuable conservation area with The Waldrons and various surrounding areas incorporating a majority of Local Listed status properties with significant historical value. The attached 2012 Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Place from Croydon Council, provides supporting evidence of this. The immediate area also incorporates Duppas Hill Park – a valuable green space used by the local communities, sporting clubs and local schools.
From information provided increasing the width of Duppas Hill Road would impact on Duppas Hill park in respect of a reduction of its size due to the increase of road lane size. It is stated that in the proposal‘This proposal would affect part of the green space at Duppas Hill but this would be mitigated through additional planting in the area’.
With respect, additional planting will not compensate for the loss of recreation and sporting activities currently undertaken in this valuable green space by the local community, clubs and local schools. It is hugely important for children and young people to have access to these spaces and not be impacted by increased pollution and of course a limitation on the space they currently have.
Please can you confirm if these plans are approved what measures will be implemented to ensure the local communities current access to this green space is not impacted in terms of the amount of space the community has and most importantly the impact of health as a result of increased pollution in the area given that the area is predominantly residential.
As part of the increased traffic, please can you also provide specific information on the noise levels that would impact the locality of The Waldrons and surrounding areas.
Finally as a resident in this locality, please can you confirm as part of the proposals which buildings specifically would have to be demolished to accommodate such a proposal.
