Edinburgh Infirmary Birthing Centre - any experiences to share?

Due DC1 in July and the birth centre at the Infirmary looks lovely....am keen on the idea of a waterbirth and keen to avoid feeling like I am in hospital (although have ruled out homebirth). The facilities look great. Anyone any experiences (positive and negative) to share? Am low risk. Thanks!

I was literally there this week! Though unfortunately had to move to labour ward after several hours. The centre is lovely; birthing balls, birthing pools, aromatherapy, tv and radio and comfy beanbag and sofa to rest/lay on. The midwives I had were fantastic and I was disappointed not to finish the process with them. It was the second time I've ended up starying there then needing medical intervention and had to go to the ward, so disappointing as it is lovely and friends who used it really loved the experience.

Thanks krusicice - congratulations on your new arrival! Sorry you weren't able to complete your labour in the centre. I think that is actually one of the nice things about it, is you have the full on labour ward facilities right next door if needed. I was wondering if anyone has had any 'availability' issues? It looks like there are only 6 rooms, which doesn't feel very many for a city the size of Edinburgh. I think I'd be a bit disappointed to have my heart set on a water-birth only to be told there were no rooms! I'm wondering how often that happens....trying to manage my own expectations I guess!

I had my youngest in the centre and it was amazing. My midwife was called amanda and I totally recommend going.

I had my second in the birthing centre and it's lovely. The rooms are big and well equipped and the ward is much quieter than the main labour ward. Unfortunately the pools were out of action when DD was born but they look nice and comfy!

Thanks ladies for the feedback! All sounds very positive (and hoping the pools are fixed by July!)
