Ratho anyone any experience on the area? Help please.

We currently live in West of Edinburgh In a small 2 bed house and are looking to move to expand our family and have a better quality of life. We have always lived right in the city with everything on our doorstep or a short car/bus ride away so the prospect of moving away from that is pretty frightening.

What is there in Ratho? We had a drive round today to have a real look and could see much a little shop 1 pub.

The area is beautiful and we have fallen for hall Croft however what do the kids do we have a 2 year old so not really worrying for now but when he is a little older what are the school and nursery like and is the area safe? In terms of people who live there at the moment do you find you need to go into Edinburgh quite often?

I have a million more questions running get through my head but if anyone can help with the basics at the moment ie weekly shops doctors surgeries?

I don't really know the area - I go climbing at the EICA but that's it! Surely google can help you out with a few of those queries. You can find care commission reports for nearby nurseries, HMIE reports for the local schools, you can find where the GP is and where the nearest supermarket is no bother.

Spend a bit longer there - go into the pub and ask around about what it's like; likewise with the shop.

The school is bursting at the seams and is needing an extension but it has good staff and a good head.

EmmaBemma Certainly google gives alot of information however I am looking for personal expereince. Care commission and HMIE reports again are great to read but dont really give a real day in the life off experience. We will go for a meal this weekend in the local pub/resturant and get a real feel for it however really looking to find out what the locals think about the area and what they do in their spare time are the kids bored? Do they travel to Edinburgh quite alot?

GrooveeCar that is graet to know as the stats I found from the Edinburgh School guide suggest the complete opposite and this is definately an issue for us.
