Chislehurst or New Eltham?

Hello mums

I have two kids aged 2 and 5, and we are looking for a place to live in Chislehurst. We love the area but we don't really know it very well, so I need some help!

I found a house in Slades Drive, which is meant to be north Chislehurst, but I am not sure if this is more like New Eltham, since this is the closest train station. Do you know this area? What would you say it is like? I can find lovely comments about Chislehurst, but not so good about New Eltham. We are currently living in a rough place in London, I am just looking for a peacefull, quiet, but not far from society place, with that sense of community and family life style that Chislehurst is meant to have... Am I looking at the right place?

Many thanks mums and dads!!!!

Slades Drive is mostly estates converted into private properties. It depends in which part of the road you are. Some are New Eltham borough, others - Bromley (Chislehurst). Houses in New Eltham are more affordable, i.e. same size house in Chis is £100,000 more pricey than the same in NE. There are lovely areas in New Eltham like Brownsping Drive for example. We were looking at both options and bought in Bickley at the end as the property is in the catchment for the secondary school we want. If you are living in a rough place now, I would highly recommend that you make correct choice this time. My opinion only of course. New Eltham has lovely roads and as far as I an aware most of it is quite nice. Green Lane is also a good option.

Bear in mind that if you are in New Eltham, borough will be Greenwich and your DC will get places there unless they are really close to the school. New Eltham is however more suitable for commute to the local grammar schools in Bexley/Sidcup/Dartford. Chislehurst/Elmstead Woods is about 10 minutes shorter journey to The City.

Come and live in Petts Wood, you get twice the commuter choices and a nice safe area with great things for the children to doo too. Petts Wood is one stop further out from London than Chislehurst. However you can get trains to Cannon Street, London Bridge and Charing Cross like you can from Chislehurst but also get to Victoria and City Thameslink too.
