Schooling in Windsor

Hello there
I'm thinking of buying a house inwindsor but having researched on the schooling system in Windsor, I'm rethinking. I have heard that wi door has some excellent schools, at least my real estate broker says so??, but people living in Windsor , can you please share your thoughts on the three tier schooling system in Windsor, what are its advantages and dis advantages, what's the difference from the 2 tier system? Which are the excellent schools for boys, my son is only 2 months old, but if I am buying a house in Windsor, I'd like think a few years ahead. Thanks mums for your valuable advice

Hi I live in Windsor and most of the state primaries are excellent. I am not sure about Trinity though. The private schools are all outstanding too. The benefit of middle school is that your ten year old is not mixing in the playground with 17 year olds and the schools are therefore smaller. There is so much to do for children in windsor you will be really spoiled for choice. Please ask if there is anything else you want to know about the area.

Thanks wantsunshine! That's good feedback about windsor. What about middle schools? Once students finish first school, do they have to give an assessment for entering middle school? Or is it again an application based on catchment area? Which are the private schools in the area?

There is no assessment for middle schools and you just apply I believe on catchment area. St Edwards have just expanded their middle school so will have a bigger intake now.
The private schools in the area are Upton House, Brigidene and St Georges. Boys at upton are only until 7. I have experience of Upton which is wonderful. The keep the classes small and so in each year there are 3 classes of 12 children. In each class there is the teacher a Ta and an assistant. The children are so well cared for there and they do so many different things including lots of clubs and sports everyday. They get a lot of one to one time with their teachers too. For some classes such as music, art or languages they will go to a teacher specialising in that area. All the children seem so happy there which is the most important thing in my opinion! I hear great things about St georges and Brigidene and I am sure they are very similar.
They have an open day in Feb that you don't need an appointment for so could be a good time to have a nose around.

My brother goes to Eton Porny (yes massive age gap!) and it's a first school that goes up to year 5 then based on catchment area and application process he will go up to a middle school till year 8 then he will probably go up to Windsor boys which is the high school.
He absolutely loves his primary and all my friends grew up going through the Windsor school system and have loved it, they are all close with their families, rather independent with the majority just come out of uni :)

Sorry bit out of topic but we are thinking of moving to the area and Windsor would be an option, how bad is the flight noise, what area are mostly affected and where would you definitely not move in? Thanks and if this upset op, pls feel free to delete I will repost as separate post

I would say Datchet is the worst so stay away from there! The noise can be quite loud but I hardly noticed it if I am honest!

Is it loud also at night? How often? Somewhere I read that it is not for example as loud as being in London (must admit I fiund London very noisy with sirens cars etc at any hour)....we are in a very quiet area at the moment (so quiet at start it gave me the chill....) now got so used to it...
