Moving to Kent

Dear all,
I am currently living in Wimbledon with my two children (7 and 5) and my DH and we want to start a new life outside of London. I grew up in London so I do not know a lot about other places. We want to live somewhere in the countryside perhaps in a small village but still with a reasonable amount of shops nearby. DH needs a commute into London so there needs to be a train. Our budget for the move £1m so money is not an issue. Any help greatly appreciated :)

Canterbury is a wonderful city with lovely villages nearby and not too far from the sea. It's on the high speed to London. Villages around Ashford are lovely too, Ashford also bring on the high speed. Egerton and Pluckley are very beautiful and have stunning views, good primary schools etc. I'm in Charing which has a connection to Ashford. Lots going on in this village and a few good properties for sale at the top of the hill with great views and land. Also near Challock school which has an outstanding status

lucysaurus, there are tons of answers to your question. I will tell you the places i know. Canterbury is great as suggested by bebsy75. Depends on how far are your ready to go. With your budget, villages around sevenoaks will be great as they provide you country living without being too far from the workplace. A bit further you have Tonbridge and Turnbridge Wells and villages around them. Personally, I would not go further than that, if travelling to London is a must, but that's an individual preference. I know some villages around this area (sevenoaks, tonbridge and turnbridge wells) so let know if you need more info for these.

Lucysaurus hi-I know this post was a few weeks back but only just joined mums net. We've just moved down to Egerton in Kent from Clapham with our nearly two year old. My husband commutes to London every day on the high speed from Ashford. It's early days as we've only been here three months or so but so far so goo...! Let me know if you have any questions. Ax

I'm in Lower Halstow and soon moving to Newington. Quiet little villages a short drive or bus ride from town. Co-op in walking distance. The train goes straight through to Victoria.
