Thinking of moving to Hadley Road

Hi all

We really love Barnet and we're thinking of moving to Hadley Road, near Monken Common. We're hoping for some general advice on that area, as well as some tips on local schools - what are the primary schools like? How strict are the catchment areas? How good are the secondary schools?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've just tweeted your call for advice here - local.mumsnet.com/Talk/local_barnet/2258887-Thinking-of-moving-to-Hadley-Road#51317899 and also on my Mumsnet Enfield site. Fingers crossed!

Catchment can be strict around here and I think your non faith choices would be Monken Hadley or Cromer Road. Hadley Road itself can be a bit of a rat run for those wishing to avoid the main street (I use it that way myself to get to Hadley Highstone). I haven't heard any horror stories about the schools.

Hello Ganouchka

My two children go to Cromer Road and are having a super time there. Both children are doing very well academically & sports and arts are celebrated. It has a diverse cohort, a rich curriculum & plenty of activities. The children are taught to swim in the school's own pool. The school is due a partial rebuild so if you get lucky you could soon have some new facilities too. I hear that other schools in the area are also good. Basically you can't really go wrong with primary schools. (Though obviously I think Cromer Road is the pick of the bunch). The only thing I'd watch for is secondary school entrance. If you have girls you are fine but with boys - unless you are Catholic or Jewish (Finchley Boys & JCOSS) - you need to be further east to get into East Barnet's catchment area. Hope that helps.
