Places to live in cambridgshire - help needed.

We have just moved to the UK from Australia and are looking for somewhere to settle within Cambridgeshire.

We have 2 young children and are looking for a house near good schools, and some nice villages/towns. We have a budget of about 425k.

It's a bit like a needle in a haystack and would appreciate any advice. We do love the countryside but do feel we need to be accessible to things for the children's sake.

As reasonable access to London and/or nottingham is required we were perhaps thinking somewhere near to the St neots rail line might be good.

Don't know the St Neot's area. From S Cambridgeshire though you can get to London in an hour or less by train and it takes just over 2 hours by car to Nottingham (easy to visit our student DCs there for the day). Plenty of good primary schools and secondary schools plus attractive lively villages.

We live in a village West of Cambridge, so about a 20 minute drive to St Neots railway station. We love it, as we an get into Cambridge in 20 minutes if it's not rush hour, and access all that Cambridge has to offer - theatre, museums, cinemas etc. Loads of great stuff going on for a small city. But we also love being in a village, so we an do lots of walks et.

I would strongly urge you to look at Cambourne - it's between Cambridge and St Neots. Lots of young families, a good community feel and more a facilities than other villages. I know several people who live there and love it. It's brand new, and £425k should buy you a good family house.
