Want to relocate to Manchester-need suggestions

I am a single mom of two kids and recently returned to the UK after years abroad. I currently live in London but I am having a hard time affording it.

I am considering relocating to Manchester but need some help and suggestions. I will be renting and unfortunately have a low budget so that may rule me out of the nicest South Manchester areas.

I don't drive right now so public transport is important. Proximity to the children's hospital would be nice too because I have a child that needs care now and again.

I am currently employed as a freelancer and can comfortably afford up to 600 pounds a month (I know, it is a tight budget).

Are there areas that I can check out that are relatively safe for a single mom?

The goal is to rent for a year and hopefully upgrade as I increase my income.

Thanks

HI, I think if you'd like to be near the Hospital you could look around areas of Withington, Fallowfield, Ladybarn etc... whilst these are student areas they also have family housing and you can find small terrace houses within your budget. These areas are on the main bus route into City Centre which passes by hospital. Hope that helps. No where is really safe is it but because they are such busy areas I have never had any problems and always feel quiet safe.

Fallowfield and Withington .. On the bus routes. Look up Manchester transport routes. Don't rule out Hulme and Moss Side - they are very diverse but no longer deserving of their awful previous reputations . I would also phone the LA and get a list of schools with places. There are good schools as well

Hi Ladies,

Thank you very much for the suggestions. My internet is very spotty at the moment hence my late reply.

I will check out the places you suggested on Rightmove and Zoopla.

I am hoping we can come down next week for a visit. I have never been to Manchester.

Thanks again

Welcome. The schools do tend to be very full so I really do recommend asking which in South and Central areas have spaces. Chorlton / whalley range may be affordable but schools may be full

Thanks itsahen. I will start calling around and checking with the schools.

Off to Rightmove now.
