mumwithtwokids · 18/02/2015 17:05

Hi Poems,

Just dropping you a note to see if the book club is still going. I'm interested in joining :)

MargoReadbetter · 05/03/2015 06:09

Still going. Sorry I haven't replied sooner, I haven't been on MN in ages and I forgot my password and changed names. It's The Fever Tree for 26 March, we meet in the evening.

MargoReadbetter · 05/03/2015 06:19

MrsSpagBol and mumwithtwokids - I have PMed you with details.

Anyone else - I'm back on MN and will be more diligent about checking posts.
(I may change names as my new mobile keeps logging me out and I forget my password.)

MargoReadbetter · 04/04/2015 19:20

Our next one is April 30th, reading The Murdstone Trilogy by Mal Peet. It's short (300 pages), satire. Send me a PM for details.

MargoReadbetter · 04/05/2015 23:46

May's book is "Perfect" by Rachel Joyce. We're meeting on the 28th May in the evening, near the library. PM me for details.

MargoReadbetter · 11/08/2015 20:13

We've done June and July, forgot to mention. We're on to August, last Thu evening of the month. PM me for details.

MargoReadbetter · 05/09/2015 19:06

Next one up on 1 October. The Martian by Andy Weir. PM me for details.

suttonmum123 · 04/03/2016 11:55

Hi. Is this book club still running? I am interested in joining.

LocalEditorSutton · 11/03/2016 08:13

Hi suttonmum123, it might be worth private messaging MargoReadbetter to see if the book group is still active.

MargoReadbetter · 20/08/2016 18:44

Hi all. Still running! Hitman Anders and the meaning of it all for August. We meet on the last Thursday of every month, 7.45 pm start at a pub in Cheam. PM me for details, if interested.

LocalEditorSutton · 22/08/2016 13:50

Hi MargoReadbetter

Is this a local mummies book group, or an ad hoc Sutton Mumsnetters' one? I ask because we've been keen to set up one for Mumsnet Sutton (as neighbouring Mumsnet Merton & Wimbledon has done) but not been overwhelmed by interest. Just wondering whether it would make more sense to 'join forces' and work for the common literary good?

As an incentive, Mumsnet HQ has kindly agreed to provide FREE copies of novels (to fit in with main site author webchats). I currently have five copies of Villa America (Liza Klaussmann) waiting to find avid local mummy readers.

Would you be interested in joining forces? Please get in touch by PM or email ([email protected]).

Kate & Helen

MargoReadbetter · 23/08/2016 23:13

Not just mums, everyone can come along. It's only 5-8 people (not always the same ones), but we've had interesting choices and good discussions.

Jessica02 · 27/11/2016 22:42

Is the book club still active?

younishgran · 06/06/2017 09:59

is book club still going

LocalEditorSutton · 07/06/2017 10:32

Hi

I have to apologise for not responding sooner about the book club.

We did try to set up a first meeting last summer but cancelled because it only looked as if there would be two of us going.

We can certainly revisit running one if there is enough 'core member' interest (ideally one needs five/six 'regulars' to make it regularly viable). So I would really encourage you to express an interest on here - and see if you can recruit a local friend or two to come along too.

Happy to aim to run one ahead of the school summer holidays (so in the next six weeks) if there's enough interest.

Ideally it needs to be somewhere with good transport links (preferably Sutton/Wallington) - a nice wine-bar/pub but one where we would be able to chat and hear each other! All Bar One would be ideal but it gets rather busy - unless we aimed for a Tuesday/Wednesday evening when it would be quieter, hopefully?

Greeneyedhappy · 19/06/2017 00:22

Hi I would love to join book club if running, I'm in Carshalton but will travel. Thanks

LocalEditorSutton · 19/06/2017 11:11

If we aim to resurrect the idea, we really do need five to six local mums who can commit to coming most of the time.

Happy to start the ball rolling for a meet-up - ahead of the school summer hols - if there are some more expressions of interest Wink.

Don't be shy :-)

Hello. Still running. I haven't been on here in a long while, sorry for the late reply. We meet on the last Thursday of the month, 7.45pm. For the 27th we have The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett. All very welcome. At the PoW in Cheam.

GardenElf · 02/06/2021 08:14
