Children's Birthday Parties

Hi,

We've been living in York for over 3 years now and our son has his 6th Birthday in December. We've been to a range of birthday parties for his friends, including:

  • Hungry Horse
  • Creepy Crawlies (3 times!)
  • Bush Babies
  • Regency Chinese Restaurant

...and were wondering if anyone has any ideas for other venues??

So far we've found

  • Pizza Express (could be fun)
  • Barley Hall/ Dig (too small a capacity - including adults)
  • Cinema (perhaps too passive)

If anyone has anything more original, creative, arty and fun birthday activities for around 17 kids of 5-6 years of age, I would be really grateful.

Thanks guys.

My DS is in year 1 (so I assume the right kind of age). One of the nicest parties we've been to recently was at Rowntrees Park. The kids did various activities around the park including a treasure hunt, firing off air pump rockets ( the dads got quite competitive with that one!), and races such as egg and spoon. The hosts reserved a table in the reading cafe - the food was lovely! It was a really good party ... Not sure if it would work in December though!

Does your ds enjoy crafty stuff? Me and Mrs Fisher (the cafe on Lord Mayors Walk) has a room to hire upstairs and can do crafty workshops -www.meandmrsfisher.co.uk/?page_id=17. Their cakes are divine!

There is also the Creation Station: I think they do weekly craft sessions, but also do 'entertainment' for parties: www.thecreationstation.co.uk/childrens-art-class-and-party-entertainer/north-yorkshire-york-north-and-east

Apologies about the username. A bit out of date now - must change it!

Take a look at the Little Vikings website - there's a guide to places for kids' parties in York.

I would hire a village hall & hire a bouncy castle !
