Hello to anyone who has children at Woodlands Primary:

Impressions?

Overly subscribed? We will have to do a very late application as only arriving next July to start in September.

Best areas to live in for ferrying kids back and forth?

Transition to one of the other schools within the federation for secondary? years away but at the back of my mind already.

I am sure my parents did not give primary or secondary a second thought and just sent me to the nearest one, now we are all supposed to be education and strategy experts.

Thank you

What area of Bristol is this in and which secondary schools do you mean?

crazymum, it is this one : www.trfyia.org.uk/woodlands/

It is in Yate so under South Glos LEA but I figured covered by Bristol forum as nearest city but if best to post elsewhere do let me know.

Seems it feeds directly to the Yate Academy (guaranteed place if you so wish)

thanks

That explains why I haven't heard of it: am opposite end of Bristol to Yate. I have heard of the Ridings Federation but it's relatively recent. I would say that the Winterbourne international academy has a better reputation than Yate.
You could try reposting asking for experience of Yate International Academy.
There are some differences between the way the school application system works between South Glos and Bristol BTW. If you have more than one child, Bristol has sibling priority even if you live out of catchment whereas South Glos only gives priority for in catchment siblings. There are posters on here who live close to the boundary for whom this has caused a problem.
There isn't a separate section for South Glos on Mumsnet - there is one on another well known mums website so you could try asking on there too.

crazymum
thanks for all of this will do as suggested and I did not know about the sibling nuance, there's always a catch isn't there? Looking at South Glos as seems less oversubscribed than Bristol schools and being a late application we will be back of the queue. Also makes sense for us to be north of Bristol as one of the reasons for relocating is to be nearer aged parents who are near Stroud. Bracing myself for kids being at separate schools but hoping not, would rather separate good schools than together in a not so good school.
