General school advice

So I'm looking for general school advice as I'm a complete novice! DD1 is due for nursery Sept 2015 and reception Sept 2016. We're buying a house Withington/fallowfield border so hoping for Mauldeth Road Primary, might just scrape into St Paul's catchment, or maybe Ladybarn or St James...

My questions are:
What secondaries are around here? (Admittedly we might move by then!)
How close would you need to be for William Hulme Yr7 intake? I'm guessing we're too far!
If we considered private prep eg WGS, MHSG or Moor Allerton how far in advance would we need to apply and are these selective at nursery/reception age?
Are there other private preps worth looking at nearby?

Is there a website that shows catchment areas, feeder schools etc?

Thanks!

Hi there I am happy to help you out as I am local. I don't know MRd but StP and Ladybarn are both great schools. William Hulme is a small catchment as far as I know. Your obvious High School from there is Parrswood (good ofsted) or Barlow (RC, ofsted good and highly rated).
If you want single sex its Burnage Media & Arts for boys or Levenshulme for girls
Ladybarn House is the other prep to look at - but all the state primaries are good. I have heard MAllerton is boy heavy, but that info may be old.
PM me is you have specific questions
