S1 places at St Thomas Aquinas

Currently in the catchment area for HolyRood RC High. DDs Primary school feeds to HolyRood so she'll automatically get a place there.

However, we're thinking of moving house into catchment for St Thomas Aquinas, but plan to leave DD (P6) at current primary school.

The CEC website isn't clear whether DD will automatically get a place at St Thomas or do I need to apply for her place. If it's the latter, what priority would she be if school is over subscribed with catchment students from feeder primary schools? This is really what I'm worried about. Ie, would non RC students from feeder primary schools have a higher priority than DD (who is RC). I assume out with catchment students with siblings already there will be a lower priority?

Don't want to move unless I'm sure she'll get a place.

Hopefully someone can advise & reassure me ??.

She should automatically get a place at the catchment school of your home address. I cant remember the exact time the letter goes out but it is at some point in p7. Children who attend "feeder" primary schools do not get priority, children who live in catchment do. So if you attend a primary but are out of catchment for that primary, and want your child to go to its "feeder" secondary for which you are also out of catchment for you need to make a placing request.

Hope this makes sense

Have you phoned placement services at the council?

When my 2 children moved to S1, we received a letter for where the catchment school was and how to apply out of catchment. I met a mum who said they had gone to the catholic primary but had a job to change to the non denom high school.

A number of children in my son's P7 class were out of catchment and their letters all said their catchment high school according to their address not the feeder school. That was in November last year.
