After school clubs in Wellington

We're about to move to Wellington and I'm a bit puzzled as to what people re: work and after school pick ups.

The school where DS currently is has an after school club from 3pm to 6pm, which is really handy but the 2 schools he may end up going to only have after school "activities" until 4pm (and possibly not every day). So what do people do if they work??

Hi. I am in South Somerset and the situation is similar here - wraparound care is a rare commodity.
At DS's primary school, there was no after school club although there was a breakfast club.
I found that fewer mums worked full time and tended to arrange their working hours around school hours, at least for the first years of primary school. If they did work full time, then people used a mishmash of arrangements - sharing school pickups with other parents or using unofficial childminders.
Schools do have to advise you about what after school care is in place, even if they just give you some names of childminders. I would do some research into what is available. If after school childcare is essential, then choose your school accordingly - perhaps look at village schools outside Wellington if necessary.

Thanks for replying Lambeth . We haven't moved yet and haven't got a school so I guess we'll wait until that happens to see what the options are. I might end up working 3 days until 2.30pn to make things work...
