Daughter having nasty anxiety -- recommend a therapist?

Hi all. My daughter is 10, and has recently starting having bouts of pretty severe anxiety. My wife and I have tried to talk to her about it, but she doesn't seem keen to go into it, or to understand why it is happening.

I was hoping to set up some kind of appointment with a counselor who might be able to shed some light or work to resolve it. Can anyone recommend a person in Brighton/Hove who they have used?

I'm sure you've already thought of this but have you contacted the CAMHS to see if they can recommend anyone? I'm seeing a therapist at the moment but I don't know if they deal with children's problems.

There is a hove branch of the Priory who would be able to point you in the right direction

There is an anxiety therapy system & counsellors at the RACH, my slightly older DD was referred after a stay in hospital, with an an anxiety linked condition.

Though that said my own DD hasn't been overly enamoured with her therapist & we are in the process of dropping it in favour of CAHMS, though my DD was angry about the referral & the therapist visiting her in hospital as we had issues with doctors initially not taking her condition seriously enough & putting it all down to stress, which turned out it wasn't.

The therapist is very nice, seems to know her stuff anxiety wise, but isn't specialised, which my own DD really needs as her anxiety is a symptom of EDSH, so isn't quite so straightforward. Also if your DD is like mine & very mature, gets annoyed & shuts off, if she feels patronised, then maybe this service isn't the best for her either, but if she's a normal 10yr old, it might be useful - they have drop in therapy art sessions too
