Hello
I am thinking of relocating to Aberdeen from Ireland for job and i have got couple of questions.
As single mum where is the best area to live, what are the secondary schools like?. I have a 12 yrs old son. Does anyone know what class he will be accepted to. I'm also considering Edinburgh i wouldn't mind either.
can anyone please give me names of good secondaryschools and area to live both in Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
Thanks alot.

What sort of area are you interested in? City Centre or suburbs? What's your budget like?

Have you an idea where in Aberdeen you'd be working? If you were working in e.g. Dyce or Altens, that would make a difference to where you should live, as both are potentially awkward commutes if you're living on the opposite side of the city.

I think most of the secondary schools are good. The Grammar School (which is a comprehensive) has a long history and is regarded as the poshest of the state comprehensives. House prices in the Grammar catchment area are high. All the secondaries in the suburbs are good. Northfield and St Machar are in the most deprived areas.

One of the big problems Aberdeen has is that it's situated between two rivers, the Don and the Dee. Traffic coming in from the north or the south has to cross over one of the few bridges, which creates bottlenecks and congestion at peak hours. So you do need to think about your commute to work in relation to where you want to stay.
