We came across this fantastic blog post today, all about our expectations of nurseries/pre-schools: t.co/laBOGM0GpO

It really made us think. Do we expect too much of early years "education"? What is the right balance of responsibilities between parents and childcare givers? What is really important when it comes to preparing our children for starting school? The article (and the amazing number of comments which follow) talk a lot about basic skills which many 4 year olds still lack: dressing, toilet ing, sharing, listening. What is the role of health visitors and other family professionals?

More topical to Mumsnet Southwark, how is our local council (and neighbouring ones) doing, in terms of meeting our children's needs?
