Hi

We're planning to move to York and I'm swithering about which area. I've seen a few lovely houses around Bootham but they're in the catchment for Clifton Green then Canon Lee, both of which seem to have poor reputations.

We're also looking at Southbank for Scarcroft/Knavesmire then Millthorpe on the basis that Millthorpe is supposedly up-and-coming (though it loos worse than Canon Lee on paper).

Obviously we're looking at Fulford (I did part of my teacher training there) but most of the catchment area is too far out of the city for us because we really want to be within a mile of the city centre. I have seen one house in Fulford that I'm interested in - it's five doors down from a house I lived in when I was a student!

So, any advice? For context my children are four and six, so I'm maybe getting ahead of myself.

Thanks

Well, you need to be thinking about Primaries first, as you know! And there are some brilliant schools around York.

We were looking at Fulford too but then ended up in the east of the city in Heworth (Hempland Primary school can not be recommended enough). I'm hoping that there'll be time to uproot before secondaries become an issue.

We moved to Fulford area in June, my girls are at Fishergate, which so far seems great. So far, love living here, convenient for everywhere including town and river walks. The houses are on the pricey side though - we were just lucky that ours wasn't but needs loads of work. Good Luck!
