Living in Twickenham

I'm moving from Scandinavia to London with my 14 year old son to work at an Ad Agency in central London. I'm a single mother and have heard that Twickenham is a nice place with good schools, in my son's case, secondary school. Could someone please tell me how difficult is it to find a flat to rent in Twickenham (budget is 1200/mth) and to find a good state school for my son. I know this is a lot but I so do appreciate any advice at all I can get. Thank you all.

Hello,

DD1 has just completed her first year of infant school so I'm not that clued-up on the secondary system. However, the secondary schools I think you'd be looking at in Twickenham are Orleans Park or (possibly - if you are down the Strawberry Hill end of Twickenham) Teddington School. I suggest you give the in-year admissions department at Richmond Council a call (020 8891 7535 or 020 8831 6255) to see if they can give you any advice on the likelihood of finding a space for your son. I believe they can't commit to anything until you have a fixed address though.

This site will give you an idea of where the schools are and catchment areas for 2013.

I don't rent, so again can't give directly relevant advice but www.rightmove.co.uk is a good site for househunting. £1,200 won't go that far in central Twickenham but there seem to be a few options if you extend your search radius a bit.

I forgot, there is also Twickenham Academy in Whitton. Suggest you google or search for threads to find out more as I don't think it's particularly highly regarded but I don't know the ins and outs. Your rent budget would go further round that way as well.
