The playrooms saved my sanity asa first time parent. Many happy afternoons spent there.

The council seems to want to close it as it has to increase capacity at other nurseries ( the playrooms is attached to Cowcaddens Day Nursery) due to its major cock up over Hillhead primary school capacity and the need to close kelvin park nursery

There is a petition on change.org - will

That would be a crying shame. I know there are huge financial pressures but just how badly have GCC handled their planning on early years/primary provision?? Will sign that petition because the playrooms is such a well-loved and well-used institution.

Hi folks,

The Council have proposed to close Kelvin Park EYC and add extra provision at other council nurseries instead - for example expand Cowcaddens by reclaiming the space used by Garscube Playrooms - instead and give the space the nursery currently occupies to Hillhead School. Given that Kelvin Park was opened to replace Dowanhill Nursery and Willows Nursery it would mean a major loss of provision to the area. The parents (including me) are petitioning to ask the Council to save the nursery/EYC. If they start a precedent of closing nurseries to give schools more space we are all in trouble - parents at Elie St Nursery and other nurseries sharing sites with schools are understandably worried.

Garscube Playrooms are a charitable organisation that have been around for 35 years and currently facilitate around 300 families. We can't allow this unique place to be allowed to close!

We are asking the Council to use the money they would spend converting the nursery into school space to sort out space issues at the school - the Council did compile a list of potential solutions to making space on site. It's a beautiful school that cost £13.8 million to build so there is potential on site.

We need to keep this multicultural vibrant nursery on site. A group has been set up by school parents to campaign for space for the school who are petitioning to have the nursery relocated. It would cost over a million pounds to purchase a site in the Westend if they could find one and refurbish it for preschoolers in time for Aug 2015 so that's NOT on the Councils list of options. Consultation continues until 10 Nov and then decision about Kelvin Park EYC, Garscube Playrooms etc will be made....
