Moving to Leicester from London - advice please

Hi
We are considering relocating to Leicester from London. We have two little kids and it is important for us to get a house in a good catchment area for schools.
I would be grateful for any feedback on areas, nurseries, schools and how realistic it is to still commute from Leicester to London for work.
thanks!

Hi cloclo2,
The commute is doable, DP spent a year working in London and living here. After trial and error, he found driving to Leighton Buzzard and catching the train into the city gave him the shortest commute for the least money!
Location wise, we are looking to move ourselves and following our initial research found Oadby to have two Ofsted 'outstanding' schools along with a Main Street with local amenities and good bus links to town (as I don't drive). So that's looking promising for us.
I hope that helps a bit and all the best with your move!

Also, a friends daughter attends Launde primary school (Oadby) and has her second child in the nursery there. It has an outstanding Oftsted report and both her children are very happy there.

I work in the Leicester train station. Trains to and from London are really regular. You should be fine for commuting. :) Good luck on your move.

Bit late on this one but would you consider Market Harborough, its a lot prettier than leicester and direct trains to London are faster.

Thanks to all for your help!

I did the commute Leicester to London for 2 years so I can speak from experience- although trains are regular and fairly fast (1 hour to 1hr 40 depending on the train), you have to factor in getting around London at the other end which makes for a journey which as the months go by is very tiring and very long. And when I did it I didn't have children. It's expensive- expect around £10K (including tube) pretty much. I did it for 2 years, and for me, never again. I left my house at 6.40am every morning and got home past 8pm every day. I ended up exhausted and gave up my job in the end (now self employed). Market Harborough is a better option as it's closer, but house prices are higher there. Good luck!
