Relocation to York

In a slight panic. Husband has got a new job in York. We will be relocating in October from Devon. This is our second relocation having moved from Essex to Devon 4 years ago. Children are 2, 8 and 11. Need to find a decent secondary school (y7) and a Y4 primary place. Have excellent primary school where we are and a super secondary where she was due to start in September. Any info/ suggestions on areas to live/avoid and school info would be greatly appreciated. Would like a nice village close to York preferably or nice suburb. Won't have a huge budget. Thanks

Way back when we first relocated to York, I attended Archbishop Holgate's, which was excellent, and my younger sister went to Lord Deramore's just down the road. This was almost 15 years ago now, but Archies has just gone from strength to strength from what I've heard.

We lived in Heslington and then Osbaldwick. Osbaldwick has a nice small village feel to it, but if you want an actual village, Wilberfoss is quite nice and v affordable.

Avoid Tang Hall if you can. Though even for being not so great, it's pretty tame in comparison to most other 'rough' areas.

It's lovely - panic not!

Hi there, looks like you and I are in the same boat!! My husband has started a new job in York and we will be relocating from Scotland before Xmas!!! I'm panicking a lot...Shock. We have 2 teenagers, one of which we will be leaving behind at university in Edinburgh.Sad
I don't even know how to work out the logistics of viewing houses from a distance apart from making made dashes down every weekend!! And we also want a good secondary school for our daughter. I visited York town a few weeks ago for a weekend and loved it and the people are so friendly but I think we also would prefer to be on the outskirts. Keep us posted as to how you get on.
I'd be very interested for any advice from anyone too. Thank you Smile
