Primary school advice, Girton

Hello! Just moved to Cambridge and the 3 nearest primary schools don't have a place, so my 7yo has been offered Oakington C of E. Any advice on whether I should appeal? My natural inclination is to avoid faith schools because we are not at all religious. However, if anyone was to give rave reviews of how fabulous Oakington was then I may reconsider! Thank you!

I think there's not much between Girton/oakington/histon schools AFAIK. I have friends who have just moved children from Girton to Oakington and much prefer it, but also know of others who've just moved their child from Oakington to Histon. I also know of people who live in oakington but have kids at Girton. Oakington is pretty small but I think gets good results.

Hopefully someone else will know more!

Hi

Girton will have 33 per class for year 3 & 4 children in September, so an appeal may be unsuccessful on that basis.

Apart from that, I agree with NoSleep above.

Depending on where you are, other local schools (attended by some children from Girton) would be Mayfield or St Lukes (but C of E again), both in Cambridge, or Dry Drayton which is VERY small.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
