Moving to Bury ?

My husband & I currently live in Ashton under Lyne, with our 2 wee boys ( 16 months & 3.5 yrs). We are planning on buying a house in the Bury area, but don't know much about the area ( we love Ramsbottom, but it seems much too expensive). Can anyone enlighten me as to whether Bury would be a good, friendly town for our boys to grow up in ? We are looking for a friendly, safe-ish place, with a good sense of community( isn't everyone !) Bury seems to tick all the boxes with regards to having lots to do & being near lovely countryside, but I just would like to hear from some locals,as to their verdict. One of the many nice things about Ramsbottom is that when I'm there I feel like a mum & not a grandma - I'm 37 & in Ashton ,that's grannie age !!

Hi there!Hopefully I can give you a few pointers; Ramsbottom is lovely but as you say, rather pricey. Tottington is just down the road (and my DD lives there). It has a lovely village feel and the schools are great.

I live in south Bury around the Whitefield/Unsworth area. Again, schools are very good and it's a great area for parks, libraries, walking etc. I moved here 8 years ago and love it.

If you have a particular area in mind, give me a shout and I can fill you in on what it's like Smile

Thanks for your ideas. We are looking in Whitefield & Prestwich, also.Whitefielsd seems leafy & suburban, but is there a town there ?

Whitefield doesn't have a high street but it does have lots of nice restaurants and a few decent bars. Loads of parks and libraries. Prestwich has the village which is where the shops are.
