Craiglockhart Primary

Hello lovely Edinburghers, we are about to move house and are considering moving to Shandon. Craiglockhart looks like a lovely primary, but it feeds to Tynecastle, which doesn't look that great. Can anyone local give me the skinny on where most of the Craiglockhart kids go for secondary? Thank you!

I went to Tynecastle. My friends who lived up by school went to Tynecastle but their older brother went to Boroughmuir.

Thanks GroveeCar - did you like Tynecastle?

It was over 20 years ago but I got on fine. My niece had a bit of a hard time during 6th year with regards to the head but another poor school have the horrible man now.

I have a number of friends with children there and they're all very happy. If I lived in the area still, I'd have sent my eldest there.

Thanks, that's really good to know.

Tynecastle is my catchment school and I would not send my dc there. Shandon is very close to the border of Boroughmuir catchment which is one of the best schools in Edinburgh and also one of the most popular. Some parents send their kids there, or opt for private. It is also not far from Gillespies or Firhill which also have a good reputation, but again they are popular schools and out of catchment requests are becoming less successful.

Thanks Tribal, that's good to be aware of. We've been trying to decide between Shandon and North Berwick, and the schools set up is starting to look a bit simpler in North Berwick...

If you definitely won't pay for private secondary you would be better off in North Berwick. We have lots of friend with kids at Craiglockhart - they love it, but are saving now for private secondary at heriots or watsons.
The secondary school in north berwick is meant to be good though.
Again, if you didn't want to pay for private secondary you could consider balerno or linlithgow - both apparently have very good secondary schools.

Thank you all for your helpful comments. We have had an offer accepted on a flat in North Berwick, so will be off to live by the seaside in a few weeks...
