Working in Wakefield, living in Leeds

My husband is working in Wakefield and we are moving up from Cardiff. We would prefer to live in Leeds and commute. We have 2 under 4 so somewhere decent with good schools is what we would like. Unfortunately, we have a small budget (£170K) or thereabouts. Any advice would be very welcome for this newcomer to Mumsnet.

You get much more for your money in Wakefield than Leeds (and would save on commuting costs obviously). Are you sure you don't want to live there?
