Hi
I'm thinking of sending my daughter to St M's. She's clever, sporty but just doesn't got in at the village college she is currently at. She is currently in year 8 and we would probably send her during year 9. Does anyone have any experience or the school? Entrance exams? Friendships? Teachers? Everything! It's changed a lot since I went there for sixth form!

Hi bumping this for you - as lots of school threads at the moment.

St Mary's is a reasonable school but has the reputation locally of being full of girls who weren't bright enough to pass the Perse Girls entrance exams so it does depend on how clever your daughter is. It is located in close proximity to Perse girls and has literally and figuratively lived in the shadow of Perse girls for a number of years. However, most of the girls I know who have been there in recent years seemed to do fairly well and have enjoyed their time there.

Thank you for your views. My daughter took the exams last week and we are just waiting to find out whether or not she got in. She also took exams for Perse Girls, Perse Upper and Sancton Wood. From your sources has there been any bullying? Or anything of that sort of feel?

Hi, These four schools are so very different, I presume you've had a good look round them all. Did you get a feeling which one would suit your daughter best? Which year is she in? If I've understood your OP correctly then she will be starting year 9 in September, is that right? Hope the exams went well.

My experiences may well be very out of date, but...

I used to teach at the Perse Girls Junior (12 years ago). The senior school had a very academic reputation. Those who were very bright did well. Those who were average suffered from being in a school full of very bright kids and felt they were the bottom of the heap (when, in fact, they may have done well elsewhere).

St Mary's definitely has the reputation of being second academically to the Perse Girls. But, for that very reason, suits some kids much better. A friend's husband taught there for many years and liked it and the girls there.

I don't know much at all about Sancton Wood, but have never heard much positive about it. Not sure what that says!
