My son is now in Year Three having joined Avenue House School in Reception.
From the moment we saw the school we knew it was the right place to send him. We were looking for a co-educational, non-denominational school and the first impressions when we visited were of classrooms that were bright and cheerful, happy and friendly children and very welcoming staff.
My son benefits from the small class sizes and the individual attention that this environment promotes, but this is balanced by the great community spirit within the school. Each child knows all the other children by name and it is lovely to see all years playing with and encouraging each other with no age barriers.
There is a focus on traditional values of tolerance, kindness, respect and a sense of duty to others.
The parents also enjoy an extremely friendly, welcoming, open community with a down-to-earth outlook and I have made some very good friends over the last 3 years.
Although the children are clearly stimulated academically, they also enjoy non-academically focused subjects with swimming, cooking, music and art being part of the school day. There is also an array of after-school clubs to experience, ranging from chess and drama to football and karate.
There are strong links with the local area too, with the children having sports lessons at local venues
What also appeals personally for me about the school is that after Avenue House, children are supported into entering whichever secondary school they feel is right for them, whether that be taking the 11+ examination, entering for a scholarship or not continuing education in an independent school.
Whichever school our son attends when he leaves Avenue House, I am confident that he has been given every chance to experience all that a primary school age child should wish for and every reason to look forward to a successful future.
