Durston House School

I would really appreciate some advice about Durston House School. I am thinking about sending my son there. He is currently in reception in our local state school and while he is fairly happy it isn't a great school and was never our first choice for him - we were getting used to it but then all the friends he has made this year started leaving as places came up for their first choice school!

The only advice I can see on Durston House is a discussion on here dating back to 2011. Can anyone offer any opinions and experience of this school? Is your son happy there?

I would have much preferred him to go to a co-ed school but I think Avenue House is a little too small and I would like him to go to a school that is great for sport. I am also going to look at St Benedicts soon although we are not religious so this doesn't seem ideal. My main concern with Durston is that it is going to be too posh and too pushy!

Hi I have a boy in Durston he is in yr 5 now and has been there since reception and has been very happy there. Its a very academic school and they push the boys a lot!!! Boys seem to be doing subjects a yr before than most schools especially maths. The only drawback is they don't provide any school meals.. Regarding the Posh bit there will always be a few Show offs!! But on the whole its not that bad.

Thank you so much for your help, it's very good to know. Think we are going to go for it and send him there.

@lilyandloulou123 did you send your boy to Durston in the end? I'd love to get some inside persepctive. Im thinking about sending my boys there and need to decide soon!
