Occasional days

I've just moved to Hertfordshire from London recently and moving 3 children into 2 schools has been a bit of a nightmare, thankfully they are all settled last one starts tomorrow.
Just rec'd all term dates holiday dates etc and come across Occasional Days,
I gather it is another day of school after their 13 weeks standard holidays, 5 inset days.
Can anyone explain to me what it is and is there more than 1, as I have never come across it before.

Occasional days are days chosen by the school staff when the school will be closed. As far as I am aware, all schools have them - ours has 2 per year. Inset days are staff training days.
