A Merton Mumsnetters' Evening Out!

LocalEditorMerton · 01/05/2014 08:48

Hi

Tentatively flagging up the idea of an evening meet-up, as I know many of you are busy during the day with work and/or motherhood, and may welcome an opportunity to unwind and meet some new, local, like-minded mums.

Initial thoughts that have come to mind include:

HMVCurzon for art-house cinema and a Wine in the bar beforehand and/or afterwards;

Trying out some of the new restaurants springing up across Merton (and then posting our reviews) - Wahaca in Wimbledon springs to mind (having opened only last week);

Comedy Club (there's one at The Gorringe Park Pub nr Tooting Station);

One of many happenings at Merton Abbey Mills.

Feedback on ideas and any other suggestions of venue, best evening for a meet-up etc... would be most welcome!

Thanks

I'd love to meet some other local mums- love the Curzon too.

LocalEditorMerton · 15/05/2014 17:47

Okay, I will put my mind to it Offally and FoxForce5.

Would Friday or Saturday night be best for you both (and anyone else who may wish to come along)? The more the merrier!

Hello, I would also be up for meeting some local mums. Curzon idea sounds good. Fri or sat evenings are good for me.

LocalEditorMerton · 16/05/2014 20:11

Keep those expressions of interest coming! I will check out what's on at the HMVCurzon in June (once we've got half-term out of the way!) and come back on Monday with some suggestions!

Have a good weekend everyone!

FoxForce5 · 16/05/2014 20:16

Either Fri or Sat fine, with a bit of notice!

TheCommoner · 16/05/2014 20:23

Friday or Saturday at the Curzon would be great. Smile

(But as an aside, I've heard about Wahaca opening - where is it?)

LocalEditorMerton · 16/05/2014 21:53

It's where Coal used to be - just round the corner from HMVCurzon on the Piazza.

TheCommoner · 16/05/2014 22:57

Oh, fantastic. Thanks for that. Very convenient for me, if we do ever meet there.

LocalEditorMerton · 18/05/2014 18:38

Hi

Hope you've all been enjoying the lovely weather this weekend! Let's hope it continues well into half-term!

Just checked out the HMVCurzon website and it seems that listings for films (rather than the screened operas, plays etc...) don't come out with too many weeks' notice.

I therefore wonder whether we'd be wise to fix a date and hope that there's a film that we can agree on! Otherwise it might be chat and WineWink!

What about the 27th/28th June or 4th/5th July? Once we have a date I will set up the event in 'Meet-ups'.

OP posts:
TheCommoner · 19/05/2014 09:05

Any of those dates would be good for me. Smile

And I'm happy to watch most films (except absolute drivel) or just drink Wine

makedoandmend1 · 19/05/2014 09:24

Oohh, just noticed this thread. I'm definitely keen. Either weekend suits, although Saturdays are easier than Fridays as DH doesn't get home from work until 7.30pm. Not insurmountable though - I can book a babysitter if need be.

TheCommoner · 19/05/2014 11:10

Thanks again for the Wahaca info, LocalEditorMerton - some of my family went there at the weekend and really liked it. Thanks

LocalEditorMerton · 19/05/2014 14:37

That's what Local is for Wink! Glad that they enjoyed their meal. Any recommendations?

Do you think they might post a review for other local Mumnetters to read here?

I will give this thread another 24 hours (for expressions of interest and responses about dates) and then post a date in 'meet-ups'.

I would definitely be keen to go to this but would prefer a more social evening rather than cinema ...but that's only because I like to talk and have a drink on a night off from a newborn!!;) happy with whatever though- great idea.

TheCommoner · 20/05/2014 11:35

I'll grill the family when I get a chance, and see about doing a review of Wahaca, LocalEd. Smile They deserve credit for their efforts on gluten-free food.

LocalEditorMerton · 20/05/2014 13:39

Hi Everyone

I've posted preliminary info about our meet-up here. Apologies for not adding any supporting message - yet - but I'm currently experiencing some 'techy' issues Hmm. Will update as and when I'm able to!

Please add your name to the meet-up list, then you will automatically be emailed when updates are made.

Looking forward to meeting you!
