Choosing a Primary school around CR2

Hello Ladies - just moved into this area and looking for a primary school for my DS (will be an in year admission to year 1). Saw Cumnor and Elmhurst, loved Cumnor, however it is too much of a commute struggle in the morning since the home is further up on Croham road near South Croydon station. (BTW - the local primary St. Peters is as near as Elmhurst is). Need feedback on Elmhurst.

I've not got any recent knowledge about Elmhurst at all, but our boy is starting at Royal Russell in Sept and that's a fair bit closer to you than Cumnor - go up Ballards Way and then left at the top. It's a lovely school.

I've been told that St Peter's is good too, but very oversubscribed.

Presumably if you are equidistant to St Peters and Elmhirst, you are quite close to St Peters so I expect you would find yourself very high on the waiting list. Have you enquired about waiting lists in the state sector?

I have DCs at St P and would really recommend, I don't think the boys private schools at Primary are a patch on the girls (Old Palace/Croydon High). If you have got your heart set on private then I would consider Royal Russell, else I really would not bother.

Thank you all lovely people for the responses. It was a crazy few weeks since we moved from a different country and were settling in here. Since we were staying in a hotel and did not have an address proof had not applied thru the council. We however did not want DS to miss school and hence have got him into Elmhurst and he has settled in pretty quickly and is liking it there. Plan to apply to the council and check out luck at St. Peters, but they say once you go the private way it is difficult to turn back.Royal Russel seemed like a lovely school, but will be a bit of a commute since both I an DH work in central London. Have you heard/experienced anything about Elmhurst which is not positive ? codandchipstwice - why did you say for primary you would not bother go the private way around here ? Any specific experiences which I can learn from ?

No real experiences other than younger two dcs started after new Head and the quality of education they are receiving is truly outstanding. I honestly would not waste my money, school does get kids into Trinity and Whitgift, yes with tuition but not too much.

MBMS - have you had any luck at St Peters?
