Hi

We are currently renting in Harrow, but now looking at moving to Reading due to DH job change. We will rent initially but are considering Reading /Wokingham to buy a house. I know about the ease of commute into Paddington & about shopping ect in central Reading.

Please talk to me about primary schools (DD is 2). Is Wokingham a better place to buy with respect to schools.

I've read that Reading is a low lying area and flood prone during the winters. Is that a big threat for residents/ has this prevented people from buying in the area?

Many thanks!

Wokingham is the better area. It depends on which part of Reading you are looking at. Caversham Park Village and Emmer Green are nice. Tilehurst not so nice. Woodley and Lower Earley are a mixed bunch but mainly very good.

I don't think you would want to live anywhere near Reading Town Centre or the train station, and parking is difficult and expensive. Wokingham is nice, but the trains go to Waterloo, not Paddington. If being on the Paddington line is important to you, I would look around Twyford (still in range for Wokingham schools).

From Wokingham you could easily get the train to reading then Paddington at only an extra 10 minutes.
