Primary Places Crisis!?!

DagnyTaggart · 17/04/2014 10:48

Does anybody know whether the local council is planning any new primary schools? There's clearly a shortage of places and though I don't have to worry until September 2015, I hope something will be done!

I've heard about two new free schools - one sounds good - a bilingual Spanish school run by an chain of British schools in Spain. The other is by an organisation called Gem, but I don't know much about this one… anyone heard anything?

:) Thanks!

Dagny there is indeed a school place crisis, you will find us all chatting at great length about it all on the schools chat thread. I know it is a long thread (and there were several threads reached 1000 posts before it) but it is not all about secondary schools, there has been talk of the Spanish and GEMs (and another from Bellevue) bid recently. Everyone welcome to share knowledge and join in.

Dagny, just to add to Heathcliff's post, here is a link to the other thread: local.mumsnet.com/Talk/local_richmond_upon_thames/a1879125-Richmond-Borough-Schools-Chat-5

Suggest you use ctrl-f to do a text search for the names of the schools to help you find the right bits of the thread, but just ask if you need more help. There's lots of chat on there about local school place stats so worth reading through for some background, and do join in.

There was a thread on the main Education board about the bilingual Spanish school but it got deleted. I think it was because the OP was part of the King's group promoting the school and that's against Mumsnet rules.

mum yes that was ironic given that if the school proposers actually came openly on to the thread to discuss their proposals and how they can tailor them to the needs of Richmond parents they would be very welcome and could access all sorts of local knowledge. Unfortunately it seems as if that only happens if the proposal originates in the community...... (Although did the Maharishi school make an appearance? )
