Merton Primary School Waiting Lists

Hi,
I've confused myself as to whether I actually need to apply to put my son on a waiting list and if so who do I contact? Or is my son automatically put on and I do nothing?

Are they worth doing?

Thanks.

I think you are automatically on the list of schools you applied to.

You can also get added to any other waiting list you wish (ie schools that were not on your form).

Sorry, posted too soon. With DD, we did get an offer from the waiting list on our 3rd choice school. We declined as decided to go private.

Good luck!

Hi

I think children are put on waiting lists automatically for schools above the one they've been allocated. However, if you want your child to go on waiting lists for schools you didn't list on your form initially you will need to contact the admissions team at Merton Council.

Please try to be calm and patient. I know it's difficult but often things dow work out with the waiting lists, it's just a waiting game. We had issues for our DC1, years ago, with us not getting a place for either of our two preferred schools, until the middle of the summer hols but it did come in the end!

I would however suggest being pro-active and considering schools not on your original list. It is better to go forward towards the start of new school year, with a school place for your DC than none at all!

Good luck!

Spare a thought for these local families here

All the best, Grinandbearo and anyone else in a similar position.

I would imagine that your first mission would be to ask Admissions at Merton Council where you are on the waiting lists for your preferred choice schools and check out which (if any) schools have availability and go from there.

There is quite a lot of movement once the deadline for confirming acceptance of places has been and gone and then there continues to be all thro' the Summer months. Don't forget that many people will be accepting places at schools which weren't their first choices. Also, there will be families considering the private sector or who know they will be moving sometime soon but have applied for reception places just in case...

Here's some useful information on breakdown of applications and offers for Merton schools for September 2014 from Merton Council.

Best wishes
